Should I wait to import a 2018 car?
Hi, I have bought a 2018 car in the UK and am wondering would I save a lot on VRT if I wait until the beginning of January to bring it in rather than mid December as the car will be a year older then.
Any advice appreciated.

I'll be transporting horses...
Hi,
I am looking into purchasing a vehicle for transporting horses (have the EB licence) and would like to know more about taxes for suitable vehicles for private use. If I were to purchase a Toyota Hilux, what tax bracket does it come under? If I were to look at a horse lorry (would have to get the licence) what tax do they come under if it's for private use vs commercial? Would be looking at a small lorry up to 7.5 tonne (max including load). Also, do you have an idea of rough costs of insurance for these vehicles?

Thoughts on wireless key related car theft?
Hi,
I'm going to buy a Volvo car that has a keyless entry. These "keys" only send a signal that can be received when you are up close to the car. Do I understand correctly that the devices that car thieves use can nonetheless pick up the signal at some distance? I understand that there are Faraday boxes that one can get that block the signal or you can probably reprogramme the car so that they don't work, but this obviously defeats the benefit.

I have a Ford Ranger insured as commercial, but as I don't need it anymore for commercial reasons I am wondering can I change it to private? I have it now taxed as private. Can you please inform me if this is possible in Ireland?

Which Outlander PHEV to go for?
Hey there, I love your site, the content is great and I have been reading it for a while now. I have a question you might be able to help me with.
I am looking to buy a used Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and have two options as per below and would love your opinion on which one to go for - basically the highest spec version of the second generation model for €17.5k or the second highest spec version of the third-generation version for €19.5k...
Option 1 - 2015(1) Second Generation PHEV 5hs
- This is the top of the line spec with red leather interior, all heated seats, Alpine stereo system
- This one has 23k miles on the clock
- Price - €17,500 (with a trade-in for my banged up Opel Meriva)
Option 2 - 2015 (2) Third Generation PHEV 4hs
- This is the newer model of the PHEV
- It is high spec but not quite as many bells and whistles as the above
- This one has 30k miles on the clock
- Price - €19,500 (with the trade-in)
