Hello,
NI-registered cars less than three years old by law do not require a valid MOT. Revenue mention it is a requirement, but what is the position if the MOT was never issued and will not be available until the car is three years old?
I have bought a car without a valid NCT, and it was lapsed from September 2025. I want to NCT this vehicle at the end of January 2026. Will I get a full year's pass as the new owner or only from September 2025?
Thanks
Will a VW Golf with a full straight-through exhaust system pass an NCT?
I accidentally hit a bollard and got the front passenger door and side skirt with mild scrapes and multiple dents. No jagged edges sustained and no holes. My NCT is on October 27, and I got a quote of €500 for the repair. Will my car fail if I do a DIY scratch removal and touch up minus the dent repair?
Kind regards
Hi,
I crashed my car against a pole a while back and it has been difficult trying to get any word of repairs on it because I need to use spare parts and it's a 2012 Peugeot so no need to buy brand new parts.
Nothing is hanging off - only the front bumper and grille were affected. Looks a little bent and radiators and everything are perfectly fine. I have an NCT test coming up in a few weeks; is it advisable to just go through buying new parts to repair it (will probably cost more than the car itself) or will that pass NCT?
I left a deposit on a Japanese import at a garage in Dublin. The problem now is the garage could not give me an NCT cert. I am disappointed... can I get my deposit back?
Thanks
Hi,
I'm looking at buying a 2022 Hyundai Tucson imported from UK to Northern Ireland. Privately registered, taxed and insured around four months. MOT not due until 2026. Do you still need to MOT vehicle if you want to import to Republic of Ireland.
Thanks
I accidentally put E05 petrol in the car immediately prior to its NCT test last week. About 11 litres was put in with the remaining seven litres of E10 left in the tank. The CO emissions were off the charts (1.41 instead of 0.11 in March). I was wondering if, given that E05 is more like 97 octane, would it be the reason for the high numbers? If I had known that E05 was like 97 octane I would not have got it as it was not an emergency.
Regards
I didn't realise my NCT was out since 2023; what are implications or what do I need to do to get up to date?
