Can my dad's old Opel Meriva be repaired for free?

Hi,

My dad is 90 years old, and he drives a 2008 Opel Meriva, and the steering has begun to lock up. It's apparently a known defect on this model. Years ago, they reimbursed people with this model for price of fixing it.

It's caused my elderly father a lot of anxiety and he's been off the road for over six months now affecting his quality of life. Have you any advice please? Is there any way to get Opel to pay for the repair as money is an issue?

Should my Skoda Octavia be recalled for its Takeda airbag?

I currently have a 2018 Skoda Octavia Combi. I read in a French magazine about the Takeda airbag recall, and my car seems to be listed, but so far Skoda have not contacted me. Is this a recall in Ireland?

What to do about my BMW's timing chain?

I have a 2008 BMW 320d Sport diesel saloon and I think that this should have been recalled due to a timing chain fault, but it hasn’t. Now I’ve been told that the timing chain is a bit loose. What should I do?

Should I avoid Volkswagen Group cars?

Good morning,

I've been thinking about buying a second hand Volkswagen Passat (2011 to 2013), but I've been reading bad things online about the NOx fixes causing terrible problems with performance drops and fuel economy deteriorating. What do you know about these issues? (yes I know the company line is that there is no drop in performance or fuel economy, but it will say that - no reason to believe a company that would do such things as intentionally cheat on the emissions tests in the first place).

Should I avoid cars that require the NOx fixes?

Thanks,

Steve

Does the 5 Series have suspension problems?

Can you tell me if owners of the F10 BMW 520d have had suspension problems? The rear spring has broken on my 2012 520d with 50,000 miles on the clock. No tow bar, pothole or apparent tyre damage. BMW fixed it but it is not a recall.

Any views?
