Should I be afraid of rear-wheel drive?

I need advice on front-wheel drive cars... like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Do they have driving probs in snow, ice, frost and heavy rain? I am hearing lots of horror stories. Are the stories true? Can you account for big sales of these type of cars in Ireland and UK if such problems exist?

Help please!

What precautions should I take when buying privately?

Hi, I have found a second hand car that I really like; however it is from a private individual, not a garage. What checks should I do to make sure this car is what the seller says it is? I'm concerned about buying a stolen car, or a car that still has finance on it, will a Cartell.ie check tell me if that is the case? Other than that, and having an idependent mechanic check the car, is there anything else I should do?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Should I worry about a car having six owners?

Could there be a reason why a Nissan Almera 1.5 SX five-door (2005 with 60,000 miles on the counter) had six owners? It is selling at €3,950 and I'm concerned there might be a fault in it.

Could I have damaged my engine by leaving oil cap off?

I recently topped the oil in my car; however I got distracted and did not replace the cap! I drove approx 150 miles before realising my error. I topped up the oil and the car seems to be driving fine. Am I likely to have caused any long term damage to the engine?
