Jonathan Meade appointed SIMI President

Jonathan Meade, Director of Hutton & Meade Dublin, has been elected as the new President of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI). The announcement was made during the organisation's 2024 AGM at the Killashee Hotel in Naas, Co. Kildare.

In his inaugural address, Meade expressed his enthusiasm for leading SIMI in the upcoming year. He emphasised the importance of creating opportunities within the industry, particularly for young apprentices and new professionals. "This is an industry where everything is possible," Meade stated. "It's our time to throw down the ladder, bringing new blood into our industry.”

Meade also highlighted the challenges faced by the motor industry, including the need for investment in people and technology to drive the sector forward. A significant focus of his presidency will be the electrification of the national fleet. He pointed out that while the increased availability of electric vehicles (EVs) in showrooms is positive, government support remains crucial for the continued transition to EVs. "The industry is not solely responsible for decarbonisation," Meade noted. "Of equal importance is the government’s role, and they simply must maintain the incentives and support which help to encourage our customers in making the switch to EVs and reassure them in their purchase choice.”

With a career spanning 43 years in the motor industry, Meade brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He began as an apprentice salesperson, eventually becoming a sales manager and then a director. In 1994, he co-founded Hutton & Meade with Joe Hutton. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the dealership has grown significantly and now focuses solely on the Hyundai franchise.

In his concluding remarks, Meade thanked the members of SIMI for the opportunity to serve as President and expressed his commitment to advancing the interests of the industry.
