BMW pits car against bike

Which do you think is quicker: BMW M3 or S1000RR superbike?

BMW must have been curious to find out how its M3 super coupé stacked up against the firm's S1000RR superbike. Why else would the company pitch the pair together on a race track for an unusual challenge?

To find out which is quicker round a circuit, BMW started the M3 on one side of the track and the superbike half way round on the other side. The rules are simple: whoever catches and passes the other wins the day.

We won't spoil the video for you by saying whether car or bike wins, but we will say it's more than worth watching to see and hear an M3 in full flight.

Both the M3 Coupé and S1000RR were treated to Akrapovic exhaust systems, freeing up a bit more power in the M3 to offer 442hp at the rear wheels. That equates to around 18hp more than a standard M3 has on offer.
