Electric record for Peugeot

Peugeot's EX1 concept car has set a new record at the Nürburgring.

Peugeot has set a new lap record for an electric car at the Nürburgring with a time of 9 minutes 1.338 seconds, which equates to an average speed of 137km/h.

The car used by Peugeot for the record attempt is its EX1 concept plug-in electric car, which was shown at 2010's Paris motor show. Setting the record, the Peugeot has beaten the previous best time for an electric car by more than 50 seconds.

Built to celebrate Peugeot's 200th anniversary, the EX1 uses four electric motors with a total power of 340hp. One motor powers each wheel to make the EX1 four-wheel drive. Light weight and skimpy bodywork helped the EX1 around the Nürburgring in its record-setting time.
