What is it?
The standard Agera is obviously too much of a pussycat because Swedish supercar nutters Koenigsegg have come up with the 1,114hp Agera R. It sports a twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 that, when running on E85 bio-fuel, pumps out Veyron-quashing amounts of power. Drive on normal unleaded and you'll have to make do with a mere 985hp.
Koenigsegg reckons the Agera R will dispatch 0-100km/h in less than three seconds, with traction the limiting factor. Top speed will be in the very respectable district of 400km/h, while a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox should make the R easier to drive than previous Koenigsegg supercars.
Why's it here?
Because it's crazy and Geneva is the best show on the planet for this sort of madness. Also, the Agera R is here to show off its new carbon fibre body and Vortex Generating Rim (VGR) wheels that create added downforce for high speed stability. They do this courtesy of a turbine-like wheel design. The Agera R is also the first car in the world to use three shock absorbers for its rear suspension. One damper works either side as per usual, but there's a third damper solely to help with anti-squat to stop the rear end from hunkering down under hard acceleration. Then there are the tyres with the highest ever speed rating, an adjustable rear wing, optional roof box...
Show stopper or floor filler?
Show stopper. No doubt about it; anyone wandering close to the Koenigsegg stand will be drawn to the Agera R. It's no beauty, but it's exactly what a no-holds barred supercar is all about.
