Volkswagen to show 'special GTI' at Wörthersee

Volkswagen to show
Volkswagen apprentices busy building unique show car.

Each year the Wörthersee GTI Meeting in Austria gathers some of the best and most talented Volkswagen car modifiers in the world.

Now in its 34th year, the Volkswagen brand will once again showcase a unique show car that has been conceived and built by a team of 13 apprentices. The team consists of 17 to 25 year-olds that are currently in training across a number of disciplines ranging from interior fitters, paint technicians, automotive mechatronics technicians, a media designer as well as process technicians specialising in plastics and rubber engineering.

Working to a tight deadline the team of four women and nine men started on the project late last year and began with a body-in-white Golf bodyshell. They have been working with and consulting experts in many areas to help bring their ideas to fruition.

"In many individual steps, our young trainees are creating a unique Golf GTI that will bear their signature both in its interior and on the outside. The apprentices have opted for an innovative colour scheme that will call for considerable skill and precision," said Holger Schülke, project manager.

Anything else?

Further details on the car remain a closely guarded secret for now as it continues to be developed. The Wörhtersee event has in past years seen some interesting concepts unveiled ranging from the Skoda Yeti Extreme, SEAT Ibiza Cupster and Audi clubsport quattro concept.
