Toyota launches used-for-new car comparison site

Upgrade.ie aims to show potential customers the savings of switching.

Toyota has launched a new website designed to show potential car buyers the financial benefits of trading in their old car for a shiny new Toyota. The site takes the details of a customer's existing car and compares it, in terms of its running costs, to those of buying and running a new car. Crucially, the calculation includes depreciation - usually the biggest single cost of car ownership and an area in which Toyota claims to have market leadership in Ireland.

Other factors taken into consideration include road tax, NCT costs, servicing costs, fuel consumption and insurance ratings.

Michael Gaynor, Head of Marketing, Toyota Ireland, said: "Our new site Upgrade.ie aims to equip consumers with the information they need in order to see the true cost of owning their vehicle and see what they can save by upgrading to a new Toyota. Sometimes consumers may think they are saving money by purchasing a used vehicle, but that is a false economy. We want to encourage consumers to look beyond by the sticker price of a vehicle and factor in the total cost of ownership."
