Porsche finds culprit of GT3 fires, set to replace all engines.

Porsche's woes with the latest generation 911 GT3 and its predilection to spontaneously combust are well documented, becoming something of a running joke on Top Gear at Hammond's expense. Having told all drivers of the cars to take them off the road while it investigates the issue Porsche has uncovered the culprit - a loose screw joint on the connecting rod that resulted in the connecting rod damaging the crankcase, which spilt oil that was subsequently ignited.

Rather than just replace the offending joint Porsche has made the decision to replace the entire engine, of all 785 GT3 models already delivered, as well as implementing the change to models awaiting delivery. The new engines, with optimised screw fittings for the 475hp 3.8-litre powerplant, will be fitted once the relevant Porsche Centres have been in touch with owners of the cars.

Anything else?
The cessation of production and thorough internal investigation came after two 991-generation GT3s went up in flames and Porsche is at pains to point out that other 911 models are not affected by the issue, as the engine in the GT3 (and the dodgy screw joints) are unique to the model.
