Trucks prepare to tear up Mondello tarmac

1,000hp racing trucks amongst star attractions at Mondello Truck Show this weekend.

Trucks would not ordinarily be our thing (it's in the name people), but when someone mentions a group of 1,000hp racing trucks haring it around a race circuit our ears tend to prick up.

The trucks in question are MAN TGS (no we don't know either) from the British Truck Racing Championship and FIA European Series and they will descend on Co. Kildare's Mondello Park for the 2013 Mondello Truck Show this coming weekend.

All manner of trucks and commercial vehicles will be in attendance including classic Scania and Volvos as well as the Irish debut of the Renault Range T Long Haul tractor-unit. We are guessing that is the truck equivalent of a Mégane RS.

In addition to the racing trucks the track will also play host to drivers from the UK Pick-Up Truck Championships, including top Irish contender David O'Regan who will pit his Ford Ranger against race cars in the Pick-Up Truck versus Racing Car challenge. There is also an award for  Ireland's top van man (or woman!) for the winner of the Mondello Courier Challenge, which pits courier companies head-to-head on the main Mondello Park track where they must collect, load, unload and deliver their parcels faster than the opposition!

The Mondello Truck show kicks off this Saturday at 9am, finishing with what is set to be Ireland's longest convoy on Sunday evening.
