Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz Cars explained: "The characteristic lines of the S-Class have always represented the expression of automotive culture, as we understand it. The new S-Class will continue this tradition and, with its striking lines, will put a face to our design philosophy over the coming years".
The piece takes the key shapes from the car's profile and reinterprets them for the sculpture. For the full effect a projection in three 'acts' creates what is described as a three-dimensional world where the imagination of the designers can be visualised (You may want to read that sentence again - Ed). Natural, flowing forms inspired the design team and these are reflected in the work. The impact of the S-Class is demonstrated by incorporating four previous generations: the 189, 108, 126 and 221 series models.
According to Wagener the sculpture sets the scene for the development of a new S-Class. Aesthetics S is the fourth of Mercedes 'Aesthetics' series of sculptures and will make its debut on 27th September.
