Peugeots get ChatGPT voice control

AI software will now be integrated into Peugeot’s i-Cockpit screens

Peugeot claims that it is one of the first car makers to add generative AI technology, based on ChatGPT software, into its cars.

All new Peugeot models

The software will be included in all Peugeot of Peugeot's new models that come packaged with the i-Cockpit and connected navigation. That includes the likes of the new electric e-308 and e-3008, and shortly the new e-5008.

Customers who want to can activate the software via the Peugeot Service Store and, for the first 10,000 who do, the software will be provided free of charge for six months. Initially Peugeot had planned to offer that trial period to only the first 5,000 customers but the take-up rate has apparently been much higher than that. Initially, the service will only be offered in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

Sophisticated and accurate

According to Peugeot: "Generative artificial intelligence ChatGPT, which is an abbreviation of 'Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer' is a cutting edge technology developed by OpenAI. This technology has learned from a huge amount of data, in order to deliver sophisticated, accurate, and concise responses to its users." As with Peugeot's standard voice control system you activate it by saying 'OK Peugeot...' and, as the car maker puts it; "ChatGPT will spring into action."

Create a quiz on the move

The system is said to be able to answer a wide variety of questions and instructions, from simple to complex, and can engage in a conversation. For instance, says Peugeot, if you arrive in a city, you can ask it to indicate which monuments to visit, to tell you the history of these places, and then, if you wish, the car's navigation system will even guide you to this landmark. ChatGPT can also entertain your children with a quiz if they're getting bored on a long journey.

Mind you, Peugeot points out that its version of ChatGPT, version 3.5, utilises data up until January 2022 at the latest, and therefore it has no knowledge of events and data occurring after that date.
