New eco-Passat easily in Band A

Volkswagen's Passat BlueMotion now uses just 4.1 litres/100km and emits just 109g/km.

The new BlueMotion version of Volkswagen's Passat saloon boasts fuel consumption of just 4.1 litres/100km (68.9) and 109g/km carbon dioxide emissions. Choose the Passat BlueMotion Estate and you still enjoy 4.3 litres/100km (65.7mpg) and 113g/km emissions, meaning both cars easily fit into Band A for tax.
Volkswagen has modified the BlueMotion's 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine for greater fuel efficiency and lower emissions by tweaking the software in the engine control unit. There are also changes to the radiator grille and under-tray to make it more aerodynamic, while the four-door saloon comes with a small rear spoiler.
The suspension on all BlueMotion versions is 15mm lower at the front and 7.5mm lower at the rear than on the regular Passat. Low rolling resistance tyres are used with 16-inch alloy wheels to maximise economy, while stop-start and battery regeneration systems are also included as standard.
Irish prices, specifications and on-sale date have yet to be confirmed.
