Lamborghini Squadra Corse SC20: a true one-off

Lamborghini Squadra Corse SC20 is a totally unique customer creation.

This is the Lamborghini Squadra Corse SC20 and don't get your hopes up of buying your own - because it's a one-off example of a road-legal yet track-focused open-topped Lambo, built to an exacting customer's bespoke request.

Striking, one-off details

The SC20 is only the second one-off from Squadra Corse, Lamborghini's motorsport department, following on from the Aventador SC18 Alston from two years back. The SC20 was penned by Centro Stile and aims to incorporate aerodynamic solutions learned upon the racetrack with exclusive details and unprecedented design lines in the bodywork.

The body is made entirely from carbon fibre and was slicked down by hand by Lamborghini's aerodynamic engineers. The SC20's front splitter is framed by two fins, while on the bonnet are two air intakes lifted from the Huracan GT3 Evo. At the back is a large carbon wing, which can be set to three different positions - Low, Medium and High Load.

On the outside, a Bianco Fu white base is teamed with Blu Cepheus livery, the latter colour carried over into the cabin where it alternates with Nero Cosmus black and Bianco Leda white. Visual carbon fibre makes up most of the dashboard, the rear bulkhead, the door panels, the centre console and the steering wheel trim, as well as the Lamborghini's monocoque structure. The seats are also made from carbon shells and are trimmed in Alcantara and leather. The door handles, however, are milled from solid aluminium and the air vents were 3D-printed at Lambo's Sant'Agata Bolognese factory.

Powering this rare confection is Lamborghini's flagship V12. It's a 6.5-litre unit with 770hp delivered at 8,500rpm, allied to 720Nm from 6,750rpm. Power goes to a four-wheel-drive system through a seven-speed Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) gearbox and grip comes from Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres mounted on 20-inch front, 21-inch rear centre-lock alloys.

'Dramatic combination'

Maurizio Reggiani, chief technical officer of Automobili Lamborghini, said: "The SC20 is a combination of sophisticated engineering, Italian craftsmanship, sportiness and advanced design. It is also an example of applying our V12 engine and carbon fibre to a radical open-top vehicle that unmistakably carries the Lamborghini DNA."

Giorgio Sanna, head of Lamborghini Motorsport, added: "The SC20 is one more technical and styling exercise that associates Squadra Corse experience with Lamborghini design, masterfully interpreted by our Centro Stile based on the customer's wishes, which was the focus of the project during the entire vehicle development and construction process."

And Mitja Borkert, head of design at Lamborghini's Centro Stile, also said: "Two years after the SC18 Alston, the SC20 was a new, intriguing challenge. The chief sources of inspiration were the Diablo VT Roadster, Aventador J, Veneno Roadster and Concept S, and the result is a dramatic combination of creativity and racing attitude."
