New Volkswagen Caddy van details

Next Volkswagen Caddy will be sleeker and more stylish than before.

Volkswagen has given us some more details, and some new artists' impressions of the new Caddy van, and the shape still looks pretty rakish by van standards, albeit not as overtly sporty as the initial images led us to believe.

New LED headlights

These new pictures show a familiar silhouette enlivened by a jutting jawline and narrower headlamps (which are now LED units), plus a defining line down the side of the van that gives the normally slab-sided look a little more presence.

According to Volkswagen this new Caddy is entirely new, and compared to the previous version "not a single screw has been left untouched." Volkswagen says that, in response to customer demand, it has made the wheels larger as standard, as well as increasing the length of the standard 'short' wheelbase version. In spite of the large cargo area, it also gets a gently downward-sloping roofline, both for styling reasons and for improving aerodynamics.

Longer and wider

We know that the Caddy will be both a little wider and longer than the outgoing version too, although Volkswagen hasn't yet given us any specific dimensions. Passenger versions will be available with a large panoramic glass roof, too.

Volkswagen also says that: "more driver assistance systems than ever before find their way here into the urban delivery vehicle and family MPV class. The new Caddy is 'always connected'. That means it becomes its own internet device with real-time information on wheels."

Engine range from the Golf 8

We don't know precisely which engine variants the new Caddy will use, but most likely it will closely shadow the new Golf 8 in that regard, with 1.0 and 1.5-litre petrols, 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesels, and the potential plug-in hybrid and fully-electric versions in the pipeline.
