Aston Martin reveals the DB11 AMR

The next Aston model to benefit from the AMR treatment is the DB11 V12 coupe.

What's the news?

Aston Martin has revealed a new range-topper for the DB11 line-up, called the DB11 AMR. It's based on the DB11 V12 Coupe, but it gets more power, a sharper chassis and unique interior and exterior enhancements to help set it apart from other DB11s.

Exterior

The overall visual theme of the DB11 AMR is 'dark'. To that end, there are dark headlamp surrounds and a dark radiator grille, rear lights with a 'smoked' finish above dark exhaust outlets, gloss black for the roof, roof strake, side sills and front splitter, then exposed carbon fibre weave for the bonnet blades and side strakes. A set of 20-inch forged alloy wheels ('AMR Silver Non-Diamond Turned') top off the new look. There will be a limited run of 100 DB11 AMR Signature Editions in Stirling Green with lime highlights, then buyers can choose any normal DB11 colour or from one of the three specially created Designer Specifications (our image gallery shows the AMR Signature Edition and the 'Mariana Blue' Designer Specification). Further carbon exterior bits are on the options list.

Interior

Inside, though highly customisable, the DB11 AMR comes with monotone leather and Alcantara trim, plus a leather sports steering wheel. A lime stripe is part of the standard cabin, too. The AMR Signature Edition has Dark Knight leather and other unique switchgear and trim, while a carbon fibre steering wheel and gearchange paddles are on the options list - along with tailored luggage.

Mechanicals

Aston hasn't yet detailed the chassis changes that make up the DB11 AMR, but it does claim to have given it a 'greater sense of connection', without reducing its GT quality of pliancy. We do know, however, that the twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 petrol engine gets a power upgrade, from 609hp to 639hp, produced at 6,500rpm. Torque is unchanged at 700Nm. The AMR tops 334km/h and does 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds.

Anything else?

If you've been keeping abreast of developments at Aston, you'll know that AMR stands for Aston Martin Racing and it's a new sub-brand for the firm's road cars, representing more driver-focused examples of the regular series-production vehicles. The AMR Pro tag is applied to more extreme cars again, designed to be used on track and limited to very low numbers of manufacture, e.g. the mighty Aston Martin Vantage AMR Pro we drove last year.

Aston Martin President & Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andy Palmer, said of the DB11 AMR: "Since its initial launch back in 2016 the DB11 range has matured rapidly and intelligently, selling close to 4,200 V12 examples in that period. With the exceptional V8 Coupe and Volante we felt the V12 could reveal more of its sporting potential, while remaining the consummate GT. By applying a suite of carefully considered performance and styling enhancements the DB11 AMR is both faster - 208mph! - and more precise. It's a combination that engages and cossets in equal measure to create a dynamic and seductive new flagship for the DB11 range, while consolidating the existing V12-powered DB11s as future collectibles."
