Nissan GT-R goes faster

The 2011 model year Nissan GT-R has slashed 2.5 seconds off its all-important Nürburgring lap time.

Ever wondered why Nissan updated the GT-R for this year when it was already one of the fastest cars on the planet? Here's the answer: an even quicker lap around the Nürburgring.

Nissan engineers love the German circuit and see it as the ultimate benchmark of a car's ability. So, with an extra 45hp in its back pocket over the earlier car, the new GT-R headed out onto the Nürburgring tarmac and smashed its previous 7 minutes 26.7 second time by 2.5 seconds.

The fastest lap of the day was clocked at 7 minutes 24.22 seconds, which is quicker than the unofficial recorded times for a Pagani Zonda F Clubsport and Ferrari Enzo. The circuit doesn't keep official lap times to discourage exactly this kind of stunt, but we're glad Nissan's engineers are so obsessed.
