Dacia at the Paris Motor Show

Advanced transmission hopes to broaden bargain SUV’s customer appeal.

What's the news?

The Dacia Duster crossover is now available with the Renault-designed six-speed EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) transmission. This aims to combine the comfort and ease of use of an automatic gearbox with the fuel economy and lower emissions achievable by a manual. To that end, the Romanian manufacturer quotes figures of 4.5l/100km (New European Driving Cycle) and CO2 emissions of 116g/km for the 1.5 dCi 110 turbodiesel engine coupled to the EDC gearbox. Hill Start Assist is a useful feature of the transmission, and promises to make setting off on inclines a doddle.

This is one of numerous upgrades announced by Dacia for its MY2017 Duster, including new upholstery for all trim levels, DAB digital radio on the Ambiance trim level upwards, new headlights and alloys and even a reversing camera. Both petrol and diesel engine options are now available on all trim levels. Pricing for the Duster with EDC transmission starts at £14,895 in the UK, so you can expect to bring one home for a little over €17,000 over here.

Anything else?

Dacia also revealed improvements to its Logan range, with similar external design touches to the Sandero. The Sandero Stepway also gains some chrome detailing, and interior materials feature soft-touch finishes and added electric amenities for occupants on both models. A new Euro 6 compliant 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine alongside the existing petrol and diesel options should help to draw further European customers to the budget brand.
