First pictures of open-top LaFerrari hypercar

We'll have to wait until the Paris show to find out if this is the LaFerrari Spider...

What's the news?

These are the first images of the open-top version of the LaFerrari hypercar, but we'll have to wait until October to find out if it will be called the Spider.

We'll also have to wait until then to discover if Ferrari will build the same 499 units of this al fresco iteration of its most powerful road car ever as it did for the fixed roof model, or whether there will be less/more of them.

What we do know is this: however many of them there will be, all the open-top LaFerraris have already been sold following a special preview for clients. And we also know that the same 800hp V12 engine plus its attendant 163hp (120kW) electric motor will be ported over, making for a 963hp missile capable of ruining even the best of hairstyles.

Ferrari says the car has a removable carbon fibre hard-top, and that 'significant and extensive modifications have been made to the chassis with the aim of retaining the same torsional rigidity and beam stiffness as the coupé version'. The aerodynamics have also been honed to offer the same drag coefficient in open-top mode as with the roof in situ.

Anything else?

All the technical details, build numbers and the LaFerrari open-top's official name will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show, running from October 1-16.
