Grand Quattroporte revised by Maserati

Maserati Quattroporte’s looks revised, top speeds increase on all models.

What's the news?

Maserati has taken the polishing cloth to its lovely Quattroporte saloon, giving it fresh exterior looks, an updated interior and additional kit. It's also quicker than before, too.

Exterior

Although it's not as pretty as its immediate predecessor, the Maserati Four-door... sorry, Quattroporte didn't need dramatic remedial surgery. Thus, what we have here are new matte black front bumper and rear diffuser inserts, the grille in the Maser's nose is said to be more 'pointed and imposing', plus it wears new vertical chrome elements, while the side skirts and exterior mirrors are also matte black. What you can't see is an electrically adjustable Air Shutter behind the grille, which can open and close depending on engine loads to improve the aerodynamic drag of the car by 10 per cent.

Interior

The main changes here pertain to the centre console, with a capacitive 8.4-inch touchscreen dominating the upper dash, while below it are new climate switches, rotary dials for the volume and function controls, and additional storage facilities. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support is part of the infotainment, there's a whole suit of advanced driver assist systems and all Quattroportes are equipped with an Air Quality Sensor to keep cabin quality at the highest level.

Mechanicals

Two Ferrari-produced petrols and a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel provide the motive power. Starting with the Quattroporte Diesel, it makes 275hp and 600Nm, enough for 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds and an increased top speed of 252km/h. Indeed, all Quattroportes' top speeds have gone up, with the 410hp/550Nm biturbo 3.0-litre V6 Quattroporte S now capable of 286km/h with a 5.1-second 0-100km/h time, while the monster GTS has 530hp and 710Nm from its 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, leading to 310km/h and a 0-100km/h time of 4.7 seconds. All models are graced with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and Skyhook adaptive dampers.

Anything else?

The new 2017MY Maserati Quattroporte will be available to order later this month, with the company hoping it will continue the success that has seen 24,000 units shifted globally since 2013.
