Updated Toyota GT86 confirmed for New York

Latest 2017MY Toyota GT86 gets more power… all 5hp of it.

What's the news?

Toyota will take a revised version of its excellent GT86 rear-wheel drive coupé to the New York International Auto Show at the end of March.

The 2017MY GT86 has something that all fans of the model have been crying out for, which is more power, but don't get too excited - the 2.0-litre, normally aspirated boxer four sees minimal increases of 5hp and 9Nm, to peak numbers of 205hp and 213Nm.

Perhaps the bigger news is the revised exterior, which features restyled bumpers front and rear, LED headlamps with new indicators, and LED tail lights. Refreshed alloy wheel designs and a rejigged interior which features a steering wheel with integrated audio controls complete the look.

Anything else?

While the changes to the engine might be modest, Toyota says it has had a play with the GT86's shock absorber and spring rates, while the manual gearbox's ratios are shortened for better acceleration. Hill Start Assist Control is also thrown in.
