New Fiat 500S debuts in Geneva

Fiat has revealed another version of the updated 500, with new sports-orientated styling features.

What's the news?

Fiat has garnished the recently refreshed 500 with some sporty details inside and out, and created the 500S. The 'S' stands for sport, you see. The 500S got its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Exterior

New external components include the bumpers, skirts and a rear spoiler. The wheels, door handles, mirrors, boot and what Fiat call a ''moustache'' (the lower front bumper grille surround to you and I) are finished in a graphite colour, with the option of 16-inch wheels in matt diamond black to replace the standard fit 15s. It will be available in two colours, Electronica Blue and a matt-finish green, with tinted rear glass and a chrome-tipped exhaust completing the look.

Interior

Cabin-wise, it's a combination of black roof lining and black seats with contrasting edges in your choice of white, yellow or blue, and co-ordinated door panels. Following on from the outside, satin graphite appears on the dashboard fascia and new steering wheel, while Frau leather with white or light blue detailing is an option. The dash also includes the new Uconnect multimedia and navigation system, which features a seven-inch HD screen and a host of connection capabilities such as Bluetooth and USB.

Anything else?

The 500S premieres the fitment of a ''BeatsAudio'' sound system developed in conjunction with Beats by Dr. Dre, which will be available across all models before the year is out. The total output of 440w along with heightened sound quality will be a strong attraction to potential customers. There is no word on any mechanical changes. The 500S goes on sale in Ireland this summer, though we don't yet have pricing details.
