Ford is the biggest scrappage brand

Fiesta is the most popular car bought under the scrappage scheme.

Ford has topped the sales charts of cars bought under the Government scrappage scheme for the first four months of 2010.

Ford claimed 17 percent of all scrappage sales, just one percent ahead of Renault. Skoda lies in third place in the scrappage sales league table on nine percent just ahead of Toyota and Volkswagen in fourth and fifth place, both on eight percent.

The Fiesta was the biggest selling model, with 11.7 percent of scrappage scheme sales, closely followed by the Renault Mégane with 9.3 percent of sales, ahead of the Skoda Octavia, with 9.3 percent.

A total of 4,960 new cars were sold in the first four months of the year in the scrappage scheme. It is estimated that between 7,000 and 8,000 new cars will be sold under the scheme, which is due to end on December 31 this year.
