Honda previews small new SUV

'Urban SUV Concept' paves the way for new small Honda crossover.

What's the news?
Honda has released a single teaser sketch of its Urban SUV Concept - as the name suggests it is a compact sports utility vehicle. Although not yet confirmed for production, it is likely that Honda wants a model to sit below the CR-V. Full details will be announced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 14th January.

Exterior
There isn't much to go on but the sketch shows a very swoopy style with a CR-V-like sweep to the side windows. The side glass shape is reflected in the rising swage line on the body.

Interior
Lots of interior space is promised, thanks to a centrally mounted fuel tank. It is described as a 'highly functional design' so expect plenty of interior configurations to suit different loads.

Mechanicals
The central fuel tank and compact size suggest the use of the Jazz platform for the Urban SUV Concept. Chances are that engine and transmission options will be shared with the Jazz but there is a possibility that Honda will showcase its Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive, which it announced in November.

Anything else?
The Urban SUV Concept is described as a global concept so expect it to appear at other shows throughout 2013.
