'Concept' previews hot new SEAT Ibiza

SEAT's Ibiza Cupra show car looks ready for the showroom.

The new look SEAT has only just arrived on our shores but already the Spanish manufacturer is ready to spice things up. The Ibiza Cupra concept, unveiled at Auto China in Beijing, is described as a 'close-to-production concept car' and SEAT sources have confirmed that it is a strong indication of the new showroom-bound version, due later this year.

Like the previous generation car the Cupra concept is powered by Volkswagen Group's 1.4-litre TSI engine that produces 180hp and 250Nm of torque. Mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission this power should see a 0-100km/h time of just over seven seconds. An XDS electronic differential lock (which mimics the effect of a limited slip differential), oversized brakes and firmer suspension help to separate the Cupra from lesser Ibiza models.

Also setting the concept apart is the aggressive Cupra styling. Featuring more aggressive bumpers, trademark gloss black mirrors, trapezoidal exhausts and 17-inch rims the Cupra does not look like the Ibiza your granny would take to Dunnes.
