Dacia turns Jogger into a camper

New ‘Sleep Pack’ arrives along with Extreme trim for Dacia Jogger.

Sleeping in your car is generally discouraged from a safety point of view, but that's advice that's broadly limited to the front seats. Sleeping in the back is another matter, and it's another matter again when you can buy a car that converts into a bed...

Comfy double bed

For those thinking that a camper van is beyond their financial reach, Dacia is riding to the rescue with the new Sleep Pack, which Dacia claims can turn the back of the spacious Jogger into a comfortable double bed within minutes.

The Sleep Pack is a fold-away camp bed, but one engineered to fit into the Jogger's interior. It weighs 50kg, and it's designed to be fitted by one person in just two minutes. To install it, you just have to take out the Jogger's removable third-row seats and unfold the Sleep Pack to reveal its 190cm x 130cm mattress. Even installed, 60cm of headroom is still left, so you shouldn't whack your head when you get up in the morning.

If you need more space than that, there's also now an optional tent which clips onto the rear of the Jogger, and for privacy's sake, you can get blackout blinds for the windows. It's the first of Dacia's new 'InNature' accessories and options, which aim to build more of an outdoorsy image for the brand.

New Extreme trim level

To make the most of this new camping setup, you're going to want to get your Jogger further off-road than before, so the good news is that Dacia is now offering a more off-road oriented 'Extreme' trim level. It's not just available for the Jogger; you can also get it on the Sandero and Duster.

To help you scramble your way up to a remote camping spot, Extreme models come with a new Extended Grip traction control system, which helps when dealing with loose or slippery surfaces.

Extreme models also get special Cedar Green paintwork with copper-coloured exterior trim for the mirror caps, wheel centres, Dacia tailgate logo and roof bar emblems. If you're buying a Sandero Stepway Extreme, you'll also find that copper trim on front fog lights, and there's a map-like 'topographical' pattern for the front doors and side mouldings. Duster Extreme models get that pattern on door pillars, protective wheelarch flares and snorkel.

Soft-touch seat material

All Extreme models come with alloys finished in Brilliant Black - 16-inch on Sandero Stepway and Jogger, 17-inch on Duster - while inside, there's a new seat material called MicroCloud. MicroCloud is a soft, velvety microfibre material, but it's also hard-wearing and easy to clean, says Dacia. Extreme interiors get more copper-coloured highlights and the reappearance of that topographical pattern.

Lionel Jaillet, Dacia VP of Product Performance, said: "Having launched our new brand identity across all our models, we are now launching a new trim level across several models in the Dacia range. The Extreme trim level encapsulates Dacia's outdoorsy spirit and gives even greater meaning to our brand promise. Sandero Stepway, Duster and Jogger will all be available in the Extreme trim level, which boasts a unique adventurous look and features that complement outdoor activity equipment."

Irish prices for the new Extreme models and the Sleep Pack haven't yet been announced, but we'll bring you an update when they are.
