Toyota Celica is fastest at Goodwood

1990s Celica is fastest up the Goodwood hill.

The fastest vehicle up the Goodwood Festival of Speed course this weekend was not a Formula 1 car or a Superbike, but a 1990s Toyota Celica.

It was no ordinary sixth generation Celica - it was lowered, stripped out and had improved aerodynamics. The car weighs 1,050kg and the driver sits further back for improved weight distribution. A flat floor and rear diffuser increase aerodynamic downforce.

Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine from a Toyota Corrola WRC car with the addition of a supercharger. The result is 700bhp - or 800bhp when the nitrous oxide injection system is used.
