New car sales up 14 percent

11,030 new cars were sold in June.

New car sales are up 14 percent after what was a very strong month in June.

According to figures from SIMI, 11,030 new cars were sold in June, which is a 31 percent increase on June 2010. The end of the scrappage scheme, which finished at the end of June caused a rush of sales.

A total of 91 percent of new cars sold were in CO2 bands A and  B, compared to 77 percent last year.

SIMI statest that 11,688 scrappage cars have been registered so far this year, which accounts for 15 percent of total new car sales.
