Extreme Audi A1 quattro

The A1 Clubsport quattro boasts a massive 510hp.

Audi is giving its faithful something very special to ogle at this year's Worthersee gathering: the A1 Clubsport.

Built as a one-off for the massive Worthersee festival for all things VW Group, the A1 Clubsport has a 501hp version of the Audi TT RS's 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo engine. A new turbocharger, intercooler, inlet manifold and exhaust help the engine to create 172hp more than stock, which helps the Clubsport from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed limited to 250km/h.

To cope with the power, the A1 Clubsport has quattro all-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox. It sits on unique 19-inch alloy wheels, while carbon ceramic brake discs rein in the performance. All of the A1 Clubsport's suspension is fully adjustable for road or track use.

The bodywork has not escaped modification either, with massive front air intakes, a large rear spoiler on top of the tailgate and deep side skirts. There's also a rear diffuser, while the overall width of the Clubsport is 60mm broader than a standard A1.

Door mirrors are borrowed from Audi's R8 and, inside, the rear seat has been removed to save weight. In its place is a strut brace to further stiffen the body shell. There are straps to pull the doors shut and storage for two racing helmets. A pair of racing seats and a simple instrument binnacle just about complete the cabin, which has been stripped of its MMI infotainment system and stereo speakers to shave even more weight from the Clubsport.

It may be a one-off show car, but Audi says features from the A1 Clubsport will soon make their way into production models. The Worthersee show runs from 1-4 June in Karnten, Austria.
