Hyundai to revive Tucson name

All new Hyundai Tucson to debut at Geneva Motor Show.

Hyundai has given us the first glimpse of the new Tucson SUV and at the same time announced that the six-year reign of the ix35 has ended. The new compact SUV, to be revealed in full at the Geneva Motor Show in a few weeks, is to assume the global Tucson name to 'underline the significance of new model'.

Little detail is known about the new SUV and the single teaser sketch released by Hyundai reveals little else. The new hexagonal grille - as seen on the facelifted i40 - is present and correct, as too are a higher waistline and sloping roof, details that are likely to be reined in before the car makes it to production; the Tucson/ix35 having previously sold well on its practicality rather than Range Rover Evoque aping sporty look.

There is a suggestion that the Tucson may spawn a sportier derivative with Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group saying: "Our new compact SUV will be a big step forward for the Hyundai brand globally. The All-New Tucson has a bold and athletic presence and a proud stance." With Hyundai having previously announced its 'N' performance division we could see a tuned version of the Tucson to battle against the likes of the Nissan Juke Nismo and MINI John Cooper Works Countryman.
