As you might have gathered, we're not the biggest fans of pre-motorshow teaser shots of cars, but in this instance, we're prepared to make an exception to that rule. This smoking tyre is all we visually have to accompany the news that McLaren is reviving the evocative 'Longtail' name - we're drooling.
It will be shortened to 'LT' for the 675LT, which will join the 650S and Asia-only 625C in the McLaren Super Series. The 675LT is going to get its preview alongside the P1 GTR at this year's Geneva Motor Show in March.
McLaren, known for being super-secretive about forthcoming releases, doesn't give us much to go on but admits that it is a road-legal supercar that embodies the Longtail ethos, with 'a focus on performance optimised aerodynamics, increased downforce, driver engagement, power and reduced weight'.
The number in the LT's name equates to the metric horsepower it delivers, which equates to a 'devilish' (McLaren's word) 666bhp in old, er, power. It will be offered as a coupé only when deliveries start later this year and more details on the 675LT, including what McLaren describes as 'its startling performance figures', will be announced in the run-up to Geneva.

Longtail was a nickname for the stretched McLaren F1 GTR racer that appeared in 1997, which became one of the most successful GT cars seen in motorsport. We're delighted the name is back and on a road car this time as well.
