New Picanto city car will join new Rio in updated Kia small car line-up.

What's the news?

Here are the first images of the new Kia Picanto, the smaller brother to the Rio and the Korean company's second small car launch of 2017.

Overall, it doesn't look hugely different to the current model (the rear styling is all but identical to that of the outgoing Rio), but it does get a more aggressive front end and there have been some significant changes under the skin.

The wheelbase has been stretched by 15mm for improved cabin space, while the front and rear overhangs have been shortened to keep the Picanto to the same 3.5-metre length as the current car.

Inside, the cabin is all new with a classy-looking 'floating' touchscreen. We haven't been given any technical details yet, but you can expect the 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit to be the engine of choice.

We'll find out more when the Picanto gets its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March.
