Volkswagen teases CC-replacing Arteon

Volkswagen Arteon replaces old CC and sits above Passat in range.

What's the news?

This is the first sneak peek at the replacement for the rakish Volkswagen CC and it's called the Arteon.

Due to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017, ahead of its market launch next summer, the Arteon is designed to sit above the Passat and is said to 'emphasise emotion in the upper mid-class'.

Volkswagen is building on its current design language of strong, horizontal lines, as the Arteon's grille bars extended into the three-dimensional headlight clusters.

All of the saloon-coupe's four doors are frameless, while the boot is top hinged - as found on the Skoda Superb - so that while it looks like a three-box saloon, it is in actual fact as practical as a hatchback.

Tobias Sühlmann, Volkswagen's exterior designer, said: "At first sight, the Arteon arouses enthusiasm through its expressive design. It then surprises through its practical virtues. This combination is unique."

Anything else?

The name Arteon comes from the word 'Art', to describe the saloon's 'harmonious lines and emotionality', and the '-eon' suffix signifier that means this is one of Wolfsburg's premium machines; like the Chinese market Phideon saloon, which is comparable to a Phaeton in terms of size and grandeur.
