Convertible Targa gets efficient new 3.0-litre engine too.

Porsche has added the new 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six engine, which it showed off at last month's Frankfurt Motor Show, to its four-wheel drive 911 range.

The new Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S get the same power boost as their two-wheel drive siblings, bringing them to 370hp and 420hp respectively. The C4S can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds, yet both cars can average better than 36mpg on the combined cycle. Top speed is north of 305km/h.

There's new suspension too, now with adaptive dampers as standard and 10mm lower than the previous 911. A hydraulic lift that raises the nose 40mm for clearing speed bumps compensates for that drop and there's optional four-wheel steering too.

On the outside, there are subtly changed lights, bumpers and engine covers, but the Targa retains its amazing electric roof mechanism.

Prices will be announced for Ireland later this year and the C4, C4S and Targa will all get their public debuts at next month's Los Angeles Motor Show.

Can't wait until then? Have a watch of the 911 Targa 4 and 4S in action:
