US receives super-powered Audi R8

Limited edition run of Audi R8 competitions scheduled for US market.

Audi is doing a limited edition version of its R8 supercar, which will be the most powerful production vehicle to date from Ingolstadt. Sadly, it's destined for the US only.

The R8 competition (the lower case 'c' is Audi's doing) draws its inspiration from the LMS racing version, with extensive use of lightweight, matt carbon elements included. The competition's naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine makes 570hp, enough for 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 320km/h.

It will use a seven-speed S tronic gearbox (no manual option) and has a sports exhaust system with black high-gloss tailpipes, which are complemented by alloys in the same finish.

Carbon can be found on the fixed rear spoiler, mirror housings, flics, side blades, front spoiler and rear diffuser, as well as in the engine bay. Ceramic brakes with red callipers are standard, while the interior also has plenty of matt carbon scattered about the place.

Anything else?

Just 60 R8 competitions will be built and, as we alluded to earlier, you need to live in the US if you want to order one now for the on-sale date of early 2015. More's the pity.
