McLaren has announced details of a 'watered down' version of the 650S, purely for the Asian market. The 625C "is being launched in response to customer demand in the Asian region" and features a detuned version of the regular 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine along with revisions to the suspension and ProActive Chassis Control to make it more useable every day.
Of course when we say detuned we do mean mildly; as the name would suggest the 625C has 625hp compared to the 650hp in the 650S. The C in the same also stands for 'Club', which is said to signify a 'more accessible and less extreme model in terms of character.'
New dampers and a revised mechanical balance are said to bring improved ride comfort to the 625C with (McLaren says) no compromise to handling or performance. Despite the loss in power the 625C actually has the same 330km/h top speed as the 650S (or 329km/h for the Spider model) though owners will have to wait a laborious 3.1 seconds to hit 100km/h from standstill - 0.1 seconds longer than in the 650S.
The McLaren 625C will initially be launched in Hong Kong, with Coupé and Spider body styles both immediately available. Selected other markets across the Asia Pacific region will be announced in the coming months.
