Longer range and fast-charging feature for updated Volkswagen e-Golf.

What's the news?

Volkswagen has confirmed information on Irish pricing for the updated all-electric e-Golf.

Set to be available from €35,665 on-the-road (an increase over the outgoing starting price of €33,410, but including the SEAI grant and VRT rebate), the revised car comes with an increased range of 300km, a jump of over 100km when compared with the existing model.

In line with the rest of the updated Golf range, the e-Golf has been gently facelifted, with full LED lamps front and rear along with refreshed bumpers. Inside, the (optional) Active Info Display takes the place of regular analogue dials behind the steering wheel, while the central infotainment touchscreen now accommodates gesture control. Driver aids such as parking radar and blind-spot monitoring are also on the options list, while the infotainment system is fully compatible with services such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

As well as the range increase, the electric motor can now be fast-charged, a function that was sorely lacking on the old car. In fact, Volkswagen says that the 35.8kWh lithium-ion battery can be fast-charged to 80 per cent capacity within an hour, while full capacity can be achieved in six hours when using a regular charger.

Anything else?

Outputs of 136hp and 290Nm mean a quicker 0-100km/h time of 9.6 seconds than before, while the top speed is now 150km/h.
