What's the news?
The fourth iteration of the Renault Megane hit our shores in June, and the launch of the new Sport Tourer estate rounds out the range. The main feature is of course the extra boot space afforded by the estate body shell, with 521 litres available with the rear seats up and 1,504 litres when they're folded down.
There are two petrol and two diesel engines to choose from, ranging from the ubiquitous 1.5-litre dCi diesel to the 205hp TCe petrol unit fitted to the range-topping GT Nav. The GT also gets a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission with launch control and the ability to change down multiple gears with one flick of a paddle, with '4Control' four-wheel steering giving more dynamic handling.
For those not looking to make the dog in the boot violently ill, there are four other trim levels to choose from. All feature front and rear LED daytime running lights, DAB radio and multiple connectivity options, gaining various niceties the further up the range you go. For example, the Dynamique S Nav fitted with the 1.5-litre diesel engine and manual gearbox, nets you 17-inch diamond-cut alloys, a rear reversing camera and an 8.7-inch touchscreen for the RLink2 multimedia system, and can be yours from €26,290. Bookending the range are the Expression and aforementioned GT Nav models, at €20,490 and €31,690 respectively.
Anything else?
In line with the rest of the Megane range, active safety systems such as traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control feature depending on trim level, and fuel economy and CO2 emissions as low as 3.7 litres/100km and 96g/km are said to be achievable with the diesel engines. The car is available to order now from any of Renault's 28 dealers nationwide, and the firm's 171 offer includes free servicing for three years, a five-year warranty and three per cent APR finance.
