What's the news?

Audi has revealed a super-hot 400hp version of the RS 3 in saloon form at the Paris Motor Show. The car gets a tweaked version of the 2.5-litre five-cylinder unit already in use in the RS 3 Sportback and the TT RS.

With 400hp and 480Nm of torque, the engine ends power to all four wheels (natch) via the seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox and the Haldex version of the quattro drivetrain. Progressive steering, four-link rear axle, a tight setup and lowered by 25mm relative to the standard model allow Audi to claim that "the chassis of the RS 3 saloon is the perfect partner for the powerful drive system. From its stable centre position, the RS 3 saloon spontaneously steers into curves and follows through with superior precision."

0-100km/h comes up in just 4.1 seconds, while top speed is limited to 250km/h. On the inside, there are sporty bucket seats and the option of a special RS version of Audi's all-digital Virtual Cockpit instrument panel, which puts the rev-counter front and centre.
