New exterior styling and extra optional tech for Renault Sport Clio and GT Line models.

What's the news?

Renault recently announced it was mildly updating the fourth-generation Clio and so the time has come for the hotter Renault Sport (RS) models to get the same treatment. There's also an update for the GT Line specification, which is an option on regular Clios.

Exterior

Like the regular Clio, this is very minor polishing for the RS version, which chiefly sees the front end defined by new 'RS Vision' lights, which form a chequered flag motif for the bumper-mounted fog lights and a set of C-shaped daytime running lamps above. The technology controlling all of the fog lights, cornering lights, sidelights and main beams works to maximise vision at night, apparently. Other than that, there are some new 18-inch wheels for the Clio RS and that's about it.

For the GT Line, Dark Metal air scoops in the front bumper along with lateral sills (aping the Clio RS's) are coupled to unique designs of 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels, plus a chrome-tipped exhaust and a Dark Metal rear bumper panel.

Interior

Nothing specific listed for the Clio RS cabin here, so expect it to benefit from the same interior tweaks as the rest of the Clio line-up, meaning new R-Link Evolution infotainment and options such as a Bose sound system.

Mechanicals

No actual changes to the powertrain offerings of the RS Clio are enacted, but Renault is keen to highlight how versatile the B-segment hot hatch can be. You can still choose from the standard 200hp RS version, with its paddle-shift EDC dual-clutch gearbox, or there's the 220hp Trophy model for the hardcore. The normal RS comes with either a Sport chassis - featuring 17- or 18-inch alloys - while there's a Cup option, which lowers the car by 3mm and brings in some additional chassis goodness, plus 18-inch wheels.

The Trophy, meanwhile, is more driver-focused again, with a 20mm drop at the front and 10mm at the rear, with stiffer springs and dampers. It gets bespoke 18-inch wheels and can now be specified with an optional Akrapovic exhaust, as seen on the insane RS16 concept car. Whichever set of pipes you opt for, the Trophy can hit 100km/h from rest in just 6.6 seconds, does a standing quarter in 14.5 seconds and has a top speed of 235km/h.

Anything else?

"The new Clio RS offers the full spectrum of Renault Sport technology for immediate driving pleasure," said Patrice Ratti, CEO of Renault Sport Cars. "At launch, each customer will be able to choose from three types of chassis and two power outputs. The model also inaugurates the highly efficient and innovative RS Vision lighting system, Renault Sport's exclusive lighting signature."

The new Clio RS should be available to order here from September.
