QX30 is development of Infiniti Q30 hatchback, due on sale in 2016.

What's the news?

Well, if the Infiniti Q30 premium hatchback isn't enough to finally bring Nissan's upmarket marque to Ireland, maybe this will do the trick - it's the QX30 premium active crossover, debuted simultaneously at this year's Los Angeles and Guangzhou international motor shows.

It's very similar in appearance to the Q30, albeit this rides even higher than that car (which, in turn, is already a bit taller than its mainstream competition), and Infiniti says it will be available with an intelligent all-wheel drive system. Which, er... the Q30 has on some models. Right.

Anyway, Roland Krueger, Infiniti's president, said: "The QX30 active crossover is joining our new premium compact family at the right time and will broaden our offer to new customers around the world. With our recent sales successes and record growth, the current product offensive will further strengthen Infiniti's global market position."

Anything else?

That sales growth is going to be the key factor in determining Infiniti's expansion into other global markets, including Ireland. The brand sold 173,000 vehicles worldwide in the first ten months of 2015, 16 per cent up on 2014's figure for the same period. It's having a bumper time of it in two absolute vital countries, China and the US, and a monthly figure of 18,400 units in October 2015 alone represents a 20 per cent increase on the same month in 2014. So when the QX30 goes on sale in the middle of 2016, expect Infiniti's numbers to swell even further.
