ESB ecars powers up the commuter belt

Latest roll out of charging points hits important commuter hubs.

As part of its plan to roll out a national infrastructure of electric car charging points the ESB has installed 30 charge points at train and Luas facilities around the country.

The ESB ecars team has committed to install 1,500 public charge points to go along with the 2,000 private points for the first purchasers of electric cars and has identified public transport hubs as the ideal location for the latest rollout. The 30 new charge points have been installed at Iarnród Éireann train stations in Drogheda, Newbridge, Sligo, Thurles and Kildare and at Luas Park & Ride facilities at Carrickmines, Stillorgan, Sandyford and Red Cow.

Speaking at the launch, Paul Mulvaney, Managing Director ESB ecars said: "The availability of electric car charging facilities at major transport hubs such as Iarnród Éireann and LUAS caters for the longer distance commuters who can now extend the range of their journey by charging their ecar during the day and having a fully charged battery for their return trip."

Chief Executives of both Iarnród Éireann and the RPA welcomed the initiative saying "it is a move towards making things easier for the electric car user."
