Ineos designes the rolling Quartermaster chassis for easy conversion.

Much of the interest in Ineos has recently been in its upcoming Fusilier compact (well, more compact) SUV, which will be a more road-focused, comfort-oriented offering than the hulking Grenadier.

Hard-working target market

However, that doesn't mean that Ineos is forgetting its core hard-working target market - far from it, because here comes the rolling chassis version of the Quartermaster pickup, which has been designed expressly for those who need to be able to put a custom-made body onto Ineos' chassis and engine hardware.

The chassis-cab Quartermaster has a five-seat, four-door body, a full box-section ladder frame chassis, heavy-duty solid beam axles, a two-speed transfer case, and up to three locking differentials, all shared with the regular Grenadier and Quartermaster pickup.

BMW straight-six engines

As with the rest of the current Ineos lineup, power comes from a choice of 3.0-litre BMW straight-sixes in either petrol or diesel form, with an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

The chassis-cab uses the same 3,227mm wheelbase as the Quartermaster, making it 305mm longer than the Grenadier Station Wagon, and there's a maximum 3,500kg towing capacity. The chassis-cab variant will be built in the same factory in Hambach, France, as the rest of the Grenadier and Quartermaster lineup.

Fire, police, and inshore rescue

George Ratcliffe, Commercial Director, Ineos Automotive, said, "In the first year since the Grenadier launched we have already seen a number of specialist conversions, particularly with emergency services such as fire, police and inshore rescue, so launching the Quartermaster Chassis Cab is a natural step that takes our off-road expertise into many commercial areas that need a class leading 4X4.

"The Grenadier's body-on-frame construction already provides huge versatility for customisation, and we know from customer configurations that our vehicles are being used equally between commercial and leisure users. The 'blank canvas' Chassis Cab variant allows even greater versatility, from the basic trayback for agricultural use through recovery and emergency services to tourism, presenting an ideal platform for an overlanding camper."
