Xpeng G6 and X9 confirmed for Ireland

Xpeng G6 and X9 confirmed for Ireland

Xpeng will launch two new models in Ireland in 2026, starting with the arrival of the updated version of the G6 electric SUV.

What's new about the G6?

Well, we've actually test-driven the new G6 already, on European roads, and you can read more about that here. However, the TL;DR version is updated styling, an improvement in cabin quality, and new lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with a staggering 451kW DC fast charging capability - theoretically allowing a 10-80 per cent charge in 12 minutes (if you can find a 450kW DC charger, which in Ireland you can't as yet). There's also a new high-performance 4WD version with 486hp.

That's one new model, what's the other?

The other is potentially even more intriguing, and is possible proof - having seen the new Lexus LS concept in Tokyo - that luxury MPVs are building up for a comeback.

That's exactly what this new X9 model is - a high-roofed seven-seater which will go on sale here in the second quarter of 2026.

What do we know about the X9?

It's a serious luxury model - in keeping with Xpeng's premium ambitions. It's a four-seater in the first two rows, with individual seats in row two, which Xpeng refers to as 'zero gravity' seats because they're designed to support you so comfortably you feel as if you're floating.

The third row is a three-seat bench that electrically folds flat and then flips backwards into the floor, leaving an unobstructed boot of up to 2,254 litres. Needless to say, there's the usual massive touchscreen in the front, but also the option of a ginormous drop-down screen so that those in the rear can enjoy a proper cinematic experience on a long run.

What kind of range does the X9 have?

We don't know exactly, as the model hasn't been through the WLTP test yet, but on China's CLTC test, it manages 702km, which suggests it should be good for around 500km here. And there's 330kW fast charging, plus a 503hp four-wheel drive, two-motor setup with air suspension.

Is Xpeng expanding in Ireland?

Yes, it is, and it's just announced a new dealership - Xpeng North Dublin, which will be part of the existing and hugely respected MSL dealership campus on the Navan Road. This new outlet joins Xpeng South Dublin in Deansgrange, Xpeng West Dublin on the Belgard Road, and Xpeng Newmarket in north Cork.

Commenting on the expansion, Ciaran O'Sullivan, Xpeng National Sales Manager, said: "MSL Motor Group played a pivotal role in introducing Xpeng to Ireland, and we're delighted to see them extend their representation with this second dealership. With the all-new Xpeng G6 already redefining expectations in its segment, this is a significant milestone for both MSL Motor Group and Xpeng.
