Porsche has developed an entry-level racing car, based on the Cayman GT4 mid-engined coupe, which means budding amateur racers will be able to order and buy a fully-specced racer straight from their local dealer.
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport will be eligible for the Pirelli World Challenge, the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA and the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada and for club races run by the Porsche Club of America as well as for other club-level meetings around the world.
The car uses a 385hp version of the Cayman's 3.8-litre flat-six petrol engine and comes, as standard, with a fully welded in roll cage and a racing bucket seat with a six-point harness. The PDK twin-clutch transmission is also standard and there's a locking diff at the back, while the front suspension is lifted directly from the larger 911 GT3 Cup racing car. Braking is by all-round steel discs of 380mm diameter. All-up weight for the car is just 1,300kg, which makes it more than a little brisk.
Sales will start after the car is unveiled to the public on the 18th of November at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
