Bespoke race series for Audi TT

New coupé to compete in Audi Sport TT Cup, supporting the DTM.

Audi will launch a one-make race series for the new TT, with the event supporting the DTM. It will be called the Audi Sport TT Cup.

Following on from the Audi R8 LMS Cup in Asia, this is the second single-model series launched by the company, with the racing TTs promising some close racing thrills from their specification. Each car will weigh only 1,125kg and have 310hp from a 2.0-litre TFSI petro engine, although a 'push-to-pass' function lobs another 30hp into the mix. That engine and the six-speed S tronic gearbox, by the way, are said to be taken almost wholesale from the road-going TT S, while an active differential that's electronically variable from the cockpit is added in.

Two races of the Audi Sport TT Cup will be held at all weekends of the DTM in 2015, echoing the six tracks in Germany and other events in neighbouring countries. All 24 cars will be centrally prepared and fielded by quattro GmbH.

Anything else?
If you're interested, 18 places on the grid are up for grabs from now, at www.audi-motorsport.com. The other six cars will be reserved for alternating guest drivers. There will be a multi-stage selection process, held in close co-operation with the Audi Driving Experience, to determine the lucky 18 competitors.

Markus Winkelhock will coach all drivers in the Audi Sport TT Cup and the winner of the series will go forward to Audi's successful GT3 sports car programme; promotion to the DTM or the World Endurance Championship is a potential further development possibility.
