Ford builds its first ever right-hand drive Mustang

Ford's iconic muscle car built in right-hand drive format as a prototype.

Ahead of its official introduction to right-hand drive markets - such as our very own - Ford has built its first right-hand drive Mustang for final development tests in order to put it into full production.

Since 1964, Ford has sold 9.2 million Mustangs, although only 161,000 of those were shifted outside of its home US market. However, for the new sixth-generation car, Ford has decided the 'Stang needs to be a global product and in order for it to achieve that status, an official right-hand drive version was needed.

That means markets like the UK, Ireland, Australia and South Africa are among more than 25 countries around the world that will now be part of the Mustang mythology. And the first ever right-hand drive US muscle car is a prototype that will be used to conduct various development tests in preparation for the Mustang's worldwide debut in the coming months.

Anything else?
The sixth-generation Mustang goes on sale in the US this autumn and in Ireland in 2015, and will eventually be available in more than 110 countries worldwide.
