Irish bikers team up to help premature babies

Charity ride out will raise funds for Neonatal intensive Care Units.

Now in its fourth successive year, the annual 'Ride Out for PREMS' event will start on 24 April and run for three days, covering some of the best roads in Ireland while delivering lifesaving equipment to Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Irish hospitals.

In all, 30 bikers, each of whom has raised at least €1,000, will jump in the saddle and lead a convoy that will visit a total of 11 Neonatal Units around the country, dropping off vital equipment such as incubators, heart monitors, ventilation and CPAP machines that have been purchased through money raised from sponsored raffles, bucket collections and even a 'Bikers do Zumba' event.

The 2014 Ride Out for PREMS will leave from Dublin on Thursday 24 April, stopping at Holles Street Hospital before then heading north to Cavan General Hospital and onto Our Lady's Hospital, Drogheda. The final stop of the day will be Letterkenny General Hospital in Donegal.

Friday will see the bikers and crew head south west to Sligo General Hospital and then onto another stop at Mayo General Hospital before getting to Galway. Day three will see the pack divide into smaller groups to cover deliveries to Tralee and Limerick Regional Hospitals before meeting back up in Cork on Saturday afternoon. The final leg of the tip will take in Portlaoise and Waterford's hospitals before returning to Dublin and finishing in Swords.
